1.) Why did you start "Be A Wealthy Therapist?"

You may have heard my story. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist in southern California and I always wanted to have a successful private practice. When I was first licensed, I soon realized that I had no idea how to attract clients. In fact I went over $45,000 in debt trying to figure out how to get clients. And when I got them, I was clueless about setting, collecting and negotiating fees.

Finally, I realized it was up to me to learn how to run a successful business. I hired coaches and mentors. I read marketing books and took lots of classes. I tested a variety of strategies and techniques. I identified 8 Key Strategies that helped my business flourish, and I began to help other therapists build their practices. Now I devote my professional life to teaching great clinicians what they didn't learn in graduate school about how to have a fun, fulfilling and profitable private practice.

We now offer several products to help therapists learn how to attract clients. We have several Be A Wealthy Therapist coaches available for those wanting individual practice-building coaching.

2.) If I want individual coaching, who would be my coach?

When Be A Wealthy Therapist started several years ago, it was just me (Casey) and my part-time assistant Kathy.

As we've grown, so has the staff. We now have associate coaches ready to serve you and your practice-building needs.

Each coach has gone through our training programs and have successfully built their therapy and coaching practices using these principles. They also feel as passionate as I do about our mission - to let therapists know that you can have a meaningful practice and make a good income! Our goal is to teach therapists practice-building strategies that work and that are actually fun, too. You can view some information about our coaches here.

3.) Who are Be A Wealthy Therapist clients? Do they all live near you in southern California?

We currently work with therapists in 16 countries - primarily in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. We have Be A Wealthy Therapist associate coaches who live in California, Texas and Mexico but all our work is provided over the phone so geography is never a problem.

We work with great clinicians who:

Have a strong managed care practice and would like to work less hours for more money.
Have a part time practice and would like to earn more money or develop a full time practice.
Have worked in government or agency settings and want to start a practice.
Are new to private practice and want the most efficient route to building their practice.

4.) How are the coaches with Be A Wealthy Therapist different from other business coaches?

As a licensed psychotherapist in private practice for over 15 years, I know the struggles that are unique to therapists. I understand the desire to help others and the discomfort that charging a good fee can cause. I recognize that many therapists feel uncomfortable about marketing themselves, as it can seem self-serving. I understand how managed care impacts a practice both positively and negatively.

All the coaches in our company walk their talk. We have all created financially rewarding practices using these strategies. We know they work and we want you to know it too.

5.) What programs to do you offer to help therapists market a private practice?

We have individual coaching packages designed to coach, train and support you in the 8 Key Strategies to building the practice you really want. You can read about the individual coaching programs we offer here.

We also offer our Exclusive Members Program which is a growing community of therapists getting together over the phone and internet for low-cost training and motivational support.

Our Self Study course is also available to give you step-by-step instructions to build your marketing plan. This consists of a 130-page manual and 12 audio CDs - plus a consultation with one of our associate coaches to personalize the program for you.

6.) Are there some personalities that are more suited to your program?

We love working with excited, energetic clinicians who "get it" that doing therapy and creating a therapy practice are not the same thing. Our clients look forward to learning the marketing skills that successful business owners know. An ideal client for this program is someone who is optimistic and - even though it can be scary at times - is willing to try new things. (Note: In order to really make the best of use of this program, some basic computer skills are necessary - such as knowing how to send emails and surf the web.)

7.) I am a strong introvert. Is your program for me?

Introverts can grow their practice very well when they learn and implement the marketing skills to do so. This program can work well for an introvert who is willing to do some extroverted activities because they truly desire to have more money and wonderful clients. (And no - it isn't all about giving speeches.)

8.) I have very little money coming in. Should I start your program now?

Marketing when you are feeling a bit desperate seldom works. I encourage people to do what they need to do to have money coming in while they are building their practice. I worked days at hospitals while I built my counseling practice at nights. Having that money helped me to finance my marketing efforts.

Until money is coming in regularly, I wouldn't recommend hiring an individual coach. To support you during this time, I have designed some free and low cost programs that can help you start to build your practice now. You can check our the Free Stuff area on this site.

There is a lot of group coaching offered in our Exclusive Membership program and it is probably the best place to start if finances are a concern. Our Exclusive Membership program will help you get started and our coaches will be here when you are ready for an individual coach!

9.) How does the individual coaching program work?

We offer an individual coaching program where you and your coach meet three times a month over the phone for 40-minutes for a minimum of 3 months.

Many times, when you and your coach speak, you will get an assignment that will help you toward your goal. You and your coach will review your progress each session in order to help you stay on track and focused.

10.) How long does it take to build a full practice?

Industry standard says it takes 3 - 5 years to build a successful small business. To build your practice is largely dependant on the effort you wish to put in and how focused those efforts are. We've seen it done in a year and we've seen it done in five years. While there are many variables, the major one is the time you are willing and able to invest and the focused actions you take.

11.) Can you guarantee I'll get a full practice after working with Be A Wealthy Therapist?

I wish I could because I want everyone to succeed. What I can guarantee is you will learn the skills to develop and implement a marketing plan suited to you and your practice. The implementation of it is up to you. I can guarantee that you will learn the techniques that have made many therapists successful.
